2018 Year in Review

12/27/2018

First off, I want to thank everyone for their support this year. Never in a million years did I think I'd have 15k followers on Instagram, front covers of magazines, and sold out workshops & tours. 2018 has truly been a fantastic year. I am very grateful for all the support, and really looking forward to what 2019 has to bring! As 2018 comes to an end, I thought I'd share ten of my favorite images from this past year.

Life in the Fjords
This year, I had the opportunity to travel to Iceland specifically to photograph blue morph (colour phase) arctic foxes. This was my first trip outside of Canada to photograph wildlife. After many hours of searching + waiting around testing my patience, this fox decided to make an appearance along the rocky shoreline.

Bull Moose
After many unsuccessful attempts to photograph moose over the last couple years, it was an exciting moment to capture this handsome bull. He was also with a cow, and two other cows were seen this particular day as well. More often then not, when I go out hoping to photograph wildlife I come home empty handed. Moments like this make all the effort & hours invested feel worth it.

Atlantic Puffin
2018 was also my first year photographing Atlantic puffins. They had been on my list of species to photograph for years.

Heart and Soul
This mother fox stole my heart this past spring. With her den a two short minute drive from my house, I got to visit them quite often. This busy mother had a total of eight kits which kept her very busy. Although she did have a mate, he was rarely around. Back and forth she went to the den, dozens of times daily, always bringing back food for her hungry kits, and only stopping for a moment to let them nurse.

Wild Thoughts
A red fox kit peers out at the world. This image was taken during The Canid Project's May Urban Red Fox workshop lead by myself and Amy Shutt. We met some very lovely, talented photographers, saw well over a dozen foxes, and had a great time!

Mates
2018 I was also able to get out to a Northern gannet nesting colony with one of my friends. This was another species that had been on my photography bucket list. There was thousands of birds, the weather cooperated, a truly spectacular trip!

Picture

Desert Bighorn Sheep
I've seen desert bighorn before 2018 when I went to the grand canyon a few years back, however, this year I was able to capture a handful of images. This year, I ventured to Zion National Park (Utah) with my brother, what a gorgeous place! Can't wait to return someday.

Whats the Hold Up?
Young raccoon at a wildlife rehab wondering if it is feeding time yet. This year I was given the opportunity to document everyday life at a wildlife rehabilitation center, from feedings to cage clean up. This was a great experience, and I really got the chance to see the blood, sweat and tears that go into this line of work. Whenever I can, I always like to give back to these rehabs by volunteering my time to help out with photographic needs or decorating the walls.

Picture

Bald Eagle
I don't usually have the best of luck with birds. 2018 did provide me with a few memorable encounters, like this eagle that was feeding on roadkill alongside of the highway in PEI.
